Stargazing with Steve Sands at the Watershed                 Friday, March 19th 2010  6:00-8pm

Winter is a great time to see the night sky.  The Watershed will feature a nighttime event to view the starry wonders.  Astronomer Steve Sands will bring a telescope for viewing the stars and planets.  Join us and bring the family for a fun and informative evening.  Free and open to the public, registration required before March 16th.  Space is limited so contact the WNC at watershed@cityodedwardsville.com or by calling 618-692-7578 to reserve your spot today.

 

Wildflower Walk                 Saturday, April 3th 2010  9-10:30am

Join a naturalist led hike around the Watershed identifying some of spring's most lovely wildflowers.  Learn about spring ephemerals, why they are the first to emerge and the importance of spring flowers in forests of our region.  Registration required: $3.00 a person or free for Watershed members before March 31st.  Space is limited so contact the WNC at watershed@cityodedwardsville.com or by calling 618-692-7578 to reserve your spot today.

 

Frog Walk with Paul Shetley                 Friday, April 3th & 16th 2010  7-9m

Paul Shetley will introduce us to the calls and habits of frogs and toads of the region and lead us into the wetlands to see them up close.  We will start in the classroom and if weather permits we will venture out to the wetlands.  Please dress appropriately and bring a flashlight or headlight as we will be exploring the wetlands.  Registration required: $5.00 a person or free for Watershed members.  Registration deadline:  April 6th & 13th.  Space is limited so contact the WNC at watershed@cityodedwardsville.com or by calling 618-692-7578 to reserve your spot today.

2009 Events

Fall Tree ID Workshop          Saturday, Nov 7th 2009  9:30-10:30am

Come out and enjoy the remaining fall colors at Watershed Nature Center.  Participants will join a naturalist led hike around the Watershed to learn our common, and not so common, tree species.  Learn to look at leaves, twigs, bark, and other clues to become an expert at tree identification.  With this new skill, hikes will be more enjoyable!  Please dress appropriately as we will be on the trail.  Open to the public.  Cost is $3 per person.  For more information contact 692-7578 or watershed@cityofedwardsville.com

FallFest                                 Sat. Oct 10th 2009  4pm-9pm

The Watershed Nature Center invites you to explore nature- in the dark!!  Our trails and building will be open from 4-9pm for Fallfest.  Bring your flashlight to take a naturalist-led hike on the trails or visit the building to learn about how worms work in the dark.  In the building we will be constructing vermicomposting bins, for $15 you can make your own to keep!  Fall fest is a community wide event.  For more information visit www.edglenfallfest.com.

Volunteer Days              ongoing second Saturday each month

The Watershed will host a volunteer day on the second Saturday every month for the remainder of 2009.  We need your help!  We will focus on grounds improvement through invasive species removal.  Bring gloves, boots, water bottles and wear old clothes, long slevees and pants are recommended.  This is a great opportunity if you or your organization need service hours.  If you would like to bring a group please contact the Watershed to register, 692-7578 or email watershed@cityofedwardsville.com.  Upcoming Saturdays - Sept. 12th, Oct. 10th, Nov. 7th, Dec. 12th  

Nature Journaling                 Wed. May 27th 2009  6:30-8pm

There are many ways to learn about nature.  Join Sandy Fultz as she teaches us how to make a simple nature journal for recording observations in nature.  We will look at sample journals made from various materials, construct our own and then record our first entry.  The class is for adults and limited to 10 participants.  Cost is $5, supplies included.  Pre-register by May 26th by contacting the WNC at watershed@cityodedwardsville.com or by calling 618-692-7578

Photography Seminar           Sat. June 6th 2009  9:30-11am

So you want to learn more about nature photography.  Join Scott Evers, a local photographer as he explains what it takes to find the "perfect shot".  Scott will share his knowledge of photography and post processing your digital images to optimize your photography in the digital world.  Topics will include camera functions and settings, equipment, composition, and editing images on the computer.  You may have seen Scotts work displayed around town and can also view his photos at www.scotteversphotography.net.  This event is open to all skill levels.       Pre-register by June 1st by contacting the WNC at watershed@cityofedwardsville.com or call 618-692-7578.
