Nature Journaling                 Wed. May 27th                 6:30-8pm

There are many ways to learn about nature.  Join Sandy Fultz as she teaches us how to make a simple nature journal for recording observations in nature.  We will look at sample journals made from various materials, construct our own and then record our first entry.  The class is for adults and limited to 10 participants.  Cost is $5, supplies included.  Pre-register by May 26th by contacting the WNC at watershed@cityodedwardsville.com or by calling 618-692-7578

Photography Seminar           Sat. June 6th                           9:30-11am

So you want to learn more about nature photography.  Join Scott Evers, a local photographer as he explains what it takes to find the "perfect shot".  Scott will share his knowledge of photography and post processing your digital images to optimize your photography in the digital world.  Topics will include camera functions and settings, equipment, composition, and editing images on the computer.  You may have seen Scotts work displayed around town and can also view his photos at www.scotteversphotography.net.  This event is open to all skill levels.       Pre-register by June 1st by contacting the WNC at watershed@cityofedwardsville.com or call 618-692-7578. 

 

 

 

 

Literacy Experiences in Nature      July 7-18         8am-12:30pm

This course will engage teachers in developing, implementing and evaluating reading and writing experiences for elementary children in nature.  Teachers and students will become naturalists by observing, describibg and researching plants, animals, and the environment.  For more information or to register, contact Dr. Stephanie McAndrews at 618-650-3426 or email smcandr@siue.edu

 

Illinois Aquatic Resources               Aug. 3-7           8:30am3pm   

Take an in depth look at the water cycle by exploring aquatic ecosystems, including the living organisms and nonliving surroungings.  Campers will be able to analyze and explain characteristics and interactions of the watershed and its physical systems.  Campers participate through observation and hands-on activities so that they will be able to know and apply concepts that describe how living things interact with each other and with their environment.  Daily field experiences will allow campers to understand populations and ecosystems, diversity and adaptations of organisms.  Campers will participate in a stream/lake clean-up.  Fish, Ornithologist, Invertebrate, Botany and Ecologist biologists will be visiting throughout the week.  To register contact The Nature Institute at 618-466-9930.
