The Watershed Education Committee brings exciting, enriching environmental programs to all who are interested in nature and its everyday miracles. Our programs are directed by educators and naturalists who combine an interest in the local environment with training in both science and teaching methods.
A wide variety of nature programs is available throughout the seasons. A diverse array of activities ensures something for everyone, with information tailored to specific age groups. Check our Calendar of Events for updated information or visit our Facebook page at Facebook.com/WatershedNatureCenter.
One of our most popular programs, the Wildflower Walk is led by an expert in native plant species. The walk follows the 1-mile trail around the perimeter of the Watershed Nature Center.
Moonlight Hikes, led by certified Sierra Club guides, offer a unique view of the Watershed Nature Center that isn't often available. Hikers can view the full moon reflected in the lake and watch for the nocturnal creatures who live there.
The annual Frog Walk is held every spring and is usually filled to capacity. The many different types of frogs and toads living in the wetland area are identified by the distinct, sometimes comical sounds they use to communicate.
When cold weather is on the way, plants and animals have to make preparations to survive the winter. Join a naturalist-led group to find out how our native trees change color and how our resident animals get ready for a tough season.
This is just a small sampling of our programs, workshops, and events. Please visit us any time you would like to participate in one of our nature-based activities. Many programs are free, while a few require a small admission fee. It helps us with our planning and scheduling if you call 618-692-7578 to let us know you are coming. We look forward to seeing you!
