John and Kay Kendall, walking in the woods they loved so well.
In 1990 John and Kay Kendall proposed turning the local abandoned sewage lagoon into a nature center. The sewage lagoon was considered to be a malodorous public nuisance by many, but the Kendalls, with their deep commitment to conservation and environmental stewardship, had a vision for this piece of land. They donated the seed money to begin the project, then rallied together community members from many different walks of life who gave their time, money, tools, and hard physical labor to build the Watershed.
Their arduous project has grown into a valuable community resource for environmental education and passive recreation. The Watershed Nature Center has educated thousands of young students on environmental topics and provided programs on stars, wildflowers, frogs, and many other subjects to the public.
The Watershed Nature Center honors the memory of John and Kay Kendall as founders and visionaries. Please help us carry on their dream. Make a contribution in their honor to the Watershed Nature Center Kendall Fund.
